The Good Shepherd Program
The Good Shepherd Program is a project through which War Survivors Ministries supports the orphans and widows in Rwanda. Since 2005, War Survivors Ministries has provided help to a number of orphans and widows of the genocide that wiped out many thousands of families. Schooling is not free in Rwanda, and orphans are not able to go to school despite their incredible motivation for education. We work with local churches and we identify orphans who dropped out lof school due to lack of financial means and our social worker in Rwanda helps them to enroll in school and we make necessary arrangements to pay their school fees and their necessary school supplies. We are currently supporting 30 students. The school year in Rwanda starts in January of the year and ends in October. Around Christmas time, Lifeline for Youth and Family conducts fund raising through students' sponsorship by compassionate people willing to give a Christmas gift to these students who have no parents to care for them. When these kids get help to go go to school, most of their life burden is lifted.. They apply themselves to their education and they are so thankful to their supporters. During the annual vacation they have from October to January, our representative organizes a retreat for all the children for a spiritual support.
